Mullein is an extremely easy plant to find in the wild or in any open location with a field. In my geological location it is almost any where if you are looking to find it. It may take some searching, depending on the time of the year in your hemisphere but you will find it. I noticed mullein like the rocker type of dirt. Also, if you are wondering how to pronounce it in the American English version it sounds like (Molen).
In my research on Mullein the most remarkable usage in history was that it was very well known to be used for treating tuberculosis. There has been many years that anti-biotics is starting to become an issue on healing tuberculosis patients around the world. As we know from our history how scary this could become again in the world. However, I find contentment knowing before antibiotics other types of plants were used for treatment.
Mullein for medical and other purposes are used by extracting the leaves and or flowers. They do this by changing it into oil or a powder, teas, smoking, paste, creams. Just depends what you want to use this plant in relation to.
Of course check with your doctor before trying any herbal remedies in particular a ND (naturopathic medicine doctor). As from my understanding medical doctors (MD’s) do not have training in herbs only/mostly pharmaceutical’s medications. However, if you are currently taking prescriptions and have a medical diagnosis it is important to reach out to them as well due to side effects and over bridging of medications with herbs and diagnosis could be dangerous. Always let your health provider know what you are planning on taking with other medications.
5 Ways Mullein has been used as a healing plant for 1000’s of years! Of course these are just 5 ways, it is used for much, much more!
- Respiratory Illnesses (Prevention and Healing): used due to the properties work as an expectorant.
- Hair Rejuvenation Properties: due to mullein having a large amount of mucilage, old herbal books have included it as a remedies as healing by the soothing emollient to reduce inflammation to the many scalp conditions which cause dry hair.
- Reduction of Inflammation: in continuing with the miracle properties of its mucilage this helps in many other ways to reduce inflammation it is used reduce the pain due to reduction of this burning and encourage healing of skin wounds. Thus salves and oils due wonders for an issue you may have on the skin.
- Younger Skin: This plant has awesome antioxidants you need to stay your beautiful self, and has vitamin C that some areas in the rural part of the country are starting to lack in their diet due to distance of healthy fruit and vegetables.
- Yucky Germ Killer: It also has the antiseptic properties we need in this germ world. It has proven in studies to prevent and stop the growth of germs that could help where anti-biotics can’t anymore. Such as in the study includes it destroys the germs that cause pneumonia, staph, and E Coli bacteria.
This plant is very amazing to say the least. I would recommend getting some seeds and plant them around your home. They will become quite tall and can grow almost anywhere. If foraging please do so sparingly as we don’t want this plant to become extinct. It’s always better to have your own garden of the plants you want to use and is very convenient and close.
