6 Steps: How to Prep Corn as Old Farmer in the Midwest!
This Midwest girl knows a thing or two about prepping for winter! Well, my 2 grandfather’s and 1 grandmother who comes from a long line a farmers who’s family immigrated from France & England. They have shared many secrets, but since it’s harvest season coming up I thought I’d share this one. I hope to share more as Prairie Nurse grows and continues it’s community.
We will call it the Old Farmer Preps, I might just start using more of these tricks of the trade to share with others since, the reliance of corporations who have bought up majority of the mom and pop businesses are not to be trusted with our food stocks.
If you don’t have a farm or knows a farmer, you can always of course during the summer months buy a bunch of corn on the cob when its in season. Or I would hope around the corner a farmer with a truck and its tailgate down in a parking lot is selling them.
Just make sure there is a husk on it! That’s mother natures protection from the elements.
Directions:
1. Make sure the corn on the cob has it’s husks.
2. Peel away a few outer layers of shuck skins, (Only a few).
3. Trim each end of the cob.
4. Don’t Blanch!
5. Then add the corn straight into freezer bags or of course you can vacuum seal them.
6. Add them to the freezer.
7. Now you are a wise Old Farmer that will enjoy his or her harvest!
The best feeling when there is a winter storm for days or weeks and there is no access to town for groceries, if you are prepped it’s not a worry! The greatest feeling is helping your neighbors sharing your the harvest and preps. It’s funny if your a country person, we don’t calling it prepping it’s just a way of life. I think more and more people are feeling this is becoming the new way for them as well wherever you live. The world is changing and I am blessed you are here! Have a great week!
